Traffic-generating tactics used

Now that you've seen who won and what they achieved, let's take a look at how they did it:

  • Social networks played a big part in this year's contest. Israel won mostly with traffic from LinkedIn groups, but almost everyone also used Facebook and Twitter to promote their articles.
  • Social bookmarking services – StumbleUpon had an impact on the results, but only one blogger (Mirko Humbert) also tried to use Digg.
  • Writing about their guest post on their own blog – many of the participating bloggers did this.
  • Emailing friends, family and contacts – if a blogger did any promotion at all for their entry, this was how they did it.
