Death and Downtime: Why The Recent Slowdown on JobMob

Only 4 new articles have appeared on JobMob in the past 6 weeks, and none in the past 3. What's going on? My apologies As soon as I understood that there would be a slowdown, I should have posted a notice so you would know what to expect until everything had come back to normal. Better late than never. Feel free to leave a comment below if you feel that I left you waiting, it's deserved. So what happened? Catastrophic hosting problems... now fixed For almost 4 years now, JobMob has been growing constantly and with big plans for this year (more on that soon!), my team (yes, I now have a team helping me) and I began preparing for the future with a move to a new web hosting company that would give us much room for growth. Unfortunately, after all our research to make the right choice, things didn't go as planned.

How Texting Shorthand Differentiates Top Candidates From Mediocre Ones

The time and place for your texting shorthand is not always what you think. This a guest post by Kristen Fife. If you’d also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. Back story A friend of mine in her 40's is just finishing up her PhD. Her focus is very much on the Digital Native generation (GenY, the Millenials) both in her research and her teaching. She posted a Facebook update that she has noticed that her written communications have become short and abbreviated, due to her heavy use of Twitter, texting her teenage son and her students, and using more shorthand in our connected world. My comment to her was that her communication skills are degrading, from a business perspective. I've noticed this more and more in the last few years as texting shorthand has become more prevalent and as IM is becoming more of preferred communication tool in the workplace. And I have to say, there is no excuse for poor language skills in any professional setting. It is one of the red flags that will differentiate a top candidate from a mediocre one.

Success Story: How A Headhunter Changed My Career (and My Life)

Sometimes, the right career change can happen without completely changing careers. This a guest post by Shoshanna Jaskoll. If you’d also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. Where I started Back in college, If you had asked me to rank possible careers for myself, my current one would not have even been on the list. I would have started with Astronaut, continued with Minister of the Environment, and possibly ended with Avocado Picker. Being 5'1" knocked me out of Astronaut contention- ( Also, I stink at math, but officially I blame the height thing). Minister of the Environment could have happened, maybe, after many, many years of grunt work, excellent ulpan and working my tuchus off to meet the right people.
