Resume blasts from the past?

I remember when I was a student at McGill University in Montreal, I thought that job hunting was a pure numbers game and that I needed to get out as many resumes as possible if I wanted a good chance at finding a job.

Luckily, at that time I didn't know about resume distribution services, also known as “resume blasters”, where you can pay to have your resume sent to thousands of recruiters or employers, turning yourself into a creator of job search spam.

Can you imagine what it's like to be on the receiving end of those resume blasts? And we wonder why recruiters don't always respond…

So what about you: how many resumes have you sent in the past month? Vote now.

I recently did an experiment to see if applying for fewer jobs resulted in fewer interviews. It turns out it doesn’t.

This month I applied for 32 jobs and gained 2 interviews. I normally apply for more than double that and get the same results. If you want to know more click on the link to my blog.

Wayne- thanks for sharing your research. Analyze which job applications have been leading to interviews (and which have not), then adapt to do more of the former. Also, analyze why those interviews haven’t lead to job offers, and make changes for your future interviews.
