About this Event

Program overview

This program is designed to provide you with the basics to improve your networking and employability skills, to build your career and personal networks. During the program you will learn more about yourself and how you can use your strengths to be successful in your job searching, your career progression and sense of belonging.

We will practice several real-life scenarios in a friendly environment where you can challenge yourself and expand your networks and friendship networks. The program integrates five modules to develop your confidence in communication in the community and in professions.

All modules are interactive workshops where you can practice and meet other participants to perfect your networking skills. There will be guest speakers from Multicultrual backgrounds to share their tips and experience.

We encourage you to book all modules, or you can book the selected module alone.

About the trainer

The Workshop will be facilitated by Marcel Briggen, a career coach and academic instructor at the University of Sydney Business School. Marcel is passionate about education, teaching and coaching people from diverse cultural backgrounds to provide a positive experience for their personal and career development. Marcel is originally from Switzerland and has over 20 years’ experience in the finance industry in Europe and Australia.

Details of the five modules

Module 1 – Network Strategy For Success

Saturday 21 November 2020 1pm – 4pm

In this workshop you will learn the fundamentals about networking. We will discuss the importance of networking for your professional career and what makes networking different from casual socialising. You will visualise your personal network and we will discuss strategies on how you create your network and how you stay connected with those people who are important for your career and your social life. You will experience how to make your network successful to achieve your goals in your job searching and in your personal and professional life. We will practice how to start a conversation and how to make a positive first impression when networking with other participants.

Module 2 – Know Your Story, Make An Impact

Saturday 28 November 2020 1pm – 4pm

In this workshop you will create your personal story which makes you standout in networking and job applications and interviews. First you will learn more about yourself. Who you are, who you want to be and how you want to be seen by others? What makes you happy and what is important in your life. Everyone is unique and you will identify your strengths and use them to increase your confidence and inspire confidence from others. After knowing your strengths, you will create your personal brand. With your brand you will develop your personal story which you can use in several life and professional networking situations and career context. Finally, you will make your self-introduction video to share your personal story with confidence.

Module 3 – Strengthen Your Community Connections

Saturday 5 December 2020 1pm – 4pm

In this workshop you will learn and practice how to start a conversation and how to introduce yourself in different life situations. Communication has two directions, listening and speaking. We will develop strategies so that other people listen to you and remember your message. You will learn the skills to be a good listener and what it means to be a good listener. You will practice how to use body language, facial expressions and voice variations to provide a powerful speech, which people will remember. We’ll also talk about the importance of gaining local experience through volunteering and internships.

Module 4 – Public Speaking Made Easy

Saturday 12 December 2020 1pm – 4pm

Ability to speak with confidence in the workplace is critical to your career success. In this workshop you will develop your charismatic presentation strategies. We will introduce you to the secrets of how to make a presentation memorable. You will experience how to tailor your message and how to connect with your audience. A very powerful tool is including a story into your presentation. People like stories and people remember stories. Another challenge when giving a presentation is being nervous. We are all nervous and we have to accept this. We give you tips on how to handle your nervousness and transform nervousness into positive energy. You will practice giving a powerful presentation and make an impact, so people remember you.

Module 5 – Master Your Interview Success

Saturday 19 December 2020 1pm – 4pm

In this workshop you will prepare for a successful job interview. An interview is the final step in getting a job. There are no secrets about interviews, but there are some critical success factors. First you will learn more about the fundamentals of job searching. We will discuss how to write a powerful resume by using your personal brand to differentiate yourself from other applications. LinkedIn is a powerful social media tool and we discuss how you can use it for your job/internship search and for your network strategies. You will prepare for a job interview and practice for success by combining all skills you have learned during this program. Then we will celebrate the successful completion of our program with a network event.
