About this Event
Please pre-register. Join author Andrew Robinson for our online workshop: Building a Writing Career. Learn how to use writing groups and websites to get your first writing/editing jobs, and get published. Negotiating fees, getting paid, protecting your creative property, front-end and back-end payments, getting credit for your work or signing a NDA, and royalties.
A transplanted New Englander, going from the Boston area to Florida, Andrew Robinson's first novel was Murder on Gosnold Island. It combined his engineering background with his love of Martha’s Vineyard. He grew up spending summers in the cottages of Oak Bluffs. Next came Lexa and the Gordian Maze of Terra a children’s science-fiction work. It led to Lexa and the Smugglers of Cyclo, both published by Amira Press. Many of his short stories are on www.grubstreet.ca, and he put thirty of them into an anthology called Martha’s Vineyard: My Island, My Memories. Dragonspeak: Drew, the Boy Who Talked to Dragons is his first children’s fantasy. It was a finalist in the 2010 RPLA (Royal Palm Literary Award). His first produced screenplay was Wiccans’ Lair, a supernatural suspense/thriller. While not released, a Rep for 20th Century Fox called it “engrossing and well-made”. He also acted in it and assisted in the production. Hip Hop High is a musical set in an urban high school and was featured at the New York City Fringe Fest in 2013. The trailer is on YouTube. He’s also done scripts and treatments for a number of television series. He was Regional Director of Central Florida for the Florida Writers’ Association, a non-profit group dedicated to helping writers, and president of Cricket Cottage Publishing, LLC, which he sold a few years ago.
Married, he has one daughter, which is why many of his stories revolve around strong and determined women. His new books from Champagne Book Group are Worst Date, Greatest Adventure, which is a time travel fantasy similar to Outlander and the first in a trilogy, and Vampire Academia, a modern-day teen vampire adventure story – not a romance like Twilight! He also has a catalog of subjects that he gives lectures and classes on writing; everything from building a writing career, writing sci-fi and fantasy, and subjects such as time travel and vampires.
