Writing Effective Job Descriptions (for TCD Managers)

A clear and comprehensive job description is the foundation for a successful appointment.

The job description is not just a job advertisement, it is the blueprint for the role for the lifetime of the position. It should inform the post-holder on what they need to do, what is expected of them, and how the role fits into the wider area. Seeing how a job fits into the overall structure of Trinity helps to demonstrate how the role makes a contribution to the university as a whole.

During this highly practical workshop, you will learn how to structure a job description that is clear, concise, well-structured, and user-friendly. You’ll learn how to use language and layout to bring a role to life and create an understanding of the requirements of the role. This workshop is targeted at managers who will write job descriptions for roles in their area.
