Objective 1:
- Understand the importance and purpose of a job description for an organization and why they require attention
- Learn when, why, and how often to update job descriptions
- Job descriptions vs. job advertisements and how to maximize engagement with job seekers
- Legal requirements of advertising open positions and attracting diverse job seekers
- The downside to bottled Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) language and overlooking DE&I
- Going beyond: The future of resumes and non-bias hiring techniques
Objective 2:
- Understand and identify exclusionary language within job descriptions for populations, including age, gender, race, religion, ability, citizenship, and education.
- Learn how company jargon can disengage job seekers
Activity 1: Job Description Forensics
- Walkthrough an exclusive job description and highlight the exclusive language as a group
- Display a second job description with exclusive language and ask the participants to identify exclusive language and the group(s) it may be excluding.
Objective 3:
- 10 steps to making a job description inclusive while simultaneously accelerating hiring
Activity 2: Three industries, three jobs
- Provide an overview of the company
- Provide a job analysis
- Provide an exclusive job description
- Break-out groups
