Student Hubs on Employability and Third Sector Jobs

About this event

Student Hubs is a charity that works with 1800+ students across five UK universities to get students involved in practical volunteering, skilled placements and in-curriculum projects in their community, and supports students to generate their own ideas for community projects. A core part of our Theory of Change is our dual impact model, which puts communities at the core of benefitting from our work alongside our student volunteers.

About the session:

In this 1 hour session and following requests from our student volunteers, our trainer Fiona will be providing advice and guidance on applying for jobs as a university student or graduate. This includes:

  • Developing your employability
  • How to reflect on your volunteering experiences
  • CVs, job interviews and guidance on applying for roles in the third sector.

Please note: This session should be a starting place for thinking about employability, however we strongly encourage you to see your university's Careers Service (even if you are a graduate), as they will be able to provide individualised and tailored support for continuing your employability journey and job searching.

Fiona works as our Partnerships and Development Director and has experience as a hiring manager, reviewing job applications and conducting interviews. Most recently she supported the virtual recruitment process of roles for our Southampton Hub Manager, Winchester Programmes Manager and Cambridge Hub Manager during 2021.

Who is this session aimed at?

This session is aimed at any UK student, primarily focused at university students, however students in secondary school and college may also find this session useful.

The session provides a broad overview to employability and third sector jobs, so as a graduate or professional you might also find this helpful for a refresher or some support in this area.

This session is open to all university students, even if you are not one of our Hub universities.

I found this training session useful – how can I ask my university/student union/organisation to bring in other training in from Student Hubs?

All of Student Hubs' webinar and workshop delivery can be bought in as training for your organisation, and we have a range of sessions which can be delivered for students, staff, or early career staff. One-off sessions start from £300 and our packages of 4 training sessions (which can be delivered for staff, students, third sector organisations or early career staff) can be bought in from £1000 – see more information at our training brochure.

This blog about our webinars and workshops includes a section at the end about training which you can share, you can share our training brochure, and you can also pass on the contact details below.

Contact Fiona Walsh, Partnerships and Development Director at Student Hubs at fiona.walsh@studenthubs.org to enquire and book training.
