Abbie- sorry to hear you’ve gotten no work so far. As an employer on Elance, the people I’ve used were the ones who made the best (not necessarily lowest) bids on my projects, and for following projects I would just send projects to them directly on the site. That site is far too large to wait for employers to come to you until you have an extremely rare skill(set).

Also, I did say above “Most of the sites listed here are free to use in their most basic form both for freelancers and employers, however some of the sites have fees for at least one party and most of the sites have paid premium features.”

Elance is not free…just to name one…the first one you list. Elance cost almost $50 to join, which I did, only to get zero work

Trying to find a job, but when they ask for my age, (won’t interview me unless I give it) and I tell them I’m over 50, they tell me there are many other applicants, and it seems to me there is age discrimination here…I’ve been looking for work for over eight months, now…
